Department of Foreign Languages is in charge of English teaching to undergraduates and postgraduates of non English major as well as the teaching to undergraduates of English major and master of translation and interpreting (MTI) and has cultivated many compound talents with solid language skills and broad specialized knowledge for architecture industry. Department of Foreign Languages is a member of Liaoning Foreign Language Association, Liaoning Translation Association and Chinese Language and Semiotics Association.
Department of Foreign Languages was formerly known as English department and obtained its present name in 2004. It set up English major and started enrolment in 2003. Now there are several training bases for MTI students and talent training bases. Department of Foreign Languages is strengthening its international exchanges by establishing joint programs with higher institutions in the UK, the US, Finland, Australia, Germany and Russia and etc..
Department of Foreign Languages has a faculty of 70 members, including 2 professors, 29 associate professors, 10 supervisors. 52 staff members have master degree or above, and 36 with overseas academic experience. We also engage foreign experts from countries like US, UK and Russia to teach.
Department of Foreign Languages has been fully equipped with advanced facilities, such as nine digital standard language labs with total area of 1,500 square meters, one architecture translation lab, one digital reading room and a simultaneous interpreting lab. Department of Foreign Languages has opened online self-teaching system and an online language lab. There are more than 4,200 books and over 20 academic journals in the reference room.
Department of Foreign Languages pays much attention to education reform and scientific research. Since 2008, the faculty has published many monographs, course books and translated works, and has undertaken dozens of provincial and ministerial level projects and school level projects as well.
